Professor Carlton (aka, Dr. Carlton) has a doctorate in literature with an emphasis in Song Lyric Poetry.
It is the objective of Professor Carlton to facilitate an opportunity for poetry enthusiasts to relish in the poetic splendor of today's song lyrics that one often misses because of the musical accompaniment.
How did Professor Carlton get started analyzing the poetic nuances of pop songs?
IN JIGSAW'S WORDS
At only 16, his advanced understanding of poetry would humble his high school teachers and later shame his college professors in his self-taught doctorate program:
Poetic Neglect, with an emphasis in Pop Music Poetry. His doctorate thesis was entitled "Poetry's Holocaust: The Poetic Marvels of Pop Song Lyrics Lost Admist Instrumentals"
Allow me to introduce...
Poetic Nobel Laureate...
Professor Carlton.
Father of Pop Music Poetic Sensatio...
Vanessa Carlton.
It is Dr. Carlton's fervent belief that the only way to unveil the poetic greatness in today's pop music song lyrics is to silence the musical instruments concealing the poetic splendor of the lyrics.
IN DR. CARLTON'S OWN WORDS
"I was rummaging through my daughter's (Vanessa Carlton) bureau one fine winter day, looking for a certain pair of glasses that I had misplaced, when I came across the lyrics for my daughter's hit song "1000 Miles".
Now I had of course heard my daughter's song "1000 Miles" over a thousand times (both at home before the song's release, and thence after on the radio), but I was always too captivated by the melody to ever fully digest the lyrics.
And so, on that fateful December day, gripping the lyric sheet to "1000 Miles", I sat down upon my daughter's bed, and read the greatest poem of my life: A Thousand Miles. I kept asking myself, How come I never saw the poetic splendor in these lyrics before? And then it hit me like a quilt-tip pen.
How could one focus on the poetic properties of a song's lyrics, while being captivated by the melodic properties of that song's melody? One simply cannot, and therefore, the only way to fully absorb the poetic greatness of today's pop songs, is to analyze them absent their musical accompaniment."
